Last posting for awhile I promise but I'm learning a lot and having fun. Can't wait to take a lot more pics and try different settings with the camera. Second pic was a small stream coming off a falls, long shutter speeds used with some telephoto, cold as hell but I think it was worth the pic, feedback apprec thanks!

The flowers have a lovely color, icy stream looks great, I'd like to see it in person if only the snow and ice were warm. The checker board looks like it was designed be used aboard ship or something else that moves and might spill your checkers in the middle of a game.

Excellent! I would only comment that the ice on the small stream seems to be too yellowish so it looks like vanilla ice cream instead of snow and ice. Maybe your color balance is off? I like the smooth moving water caused by the slow shutter speed.

Downloaded and read the Metadata says it was taken at 6:37 PM so it is late afternoon warm light. Data also indicates it was taken with an i phone. If so, no white balance to adjust and one heck of a shot for a phone.

Hey Robert not sure how metadata works but actually this was taken with my SX50 at around 8;30pm, dark in Buffalo by 5-5;30p.

Sorry about that, enlarged the data view on screen and see it says 8:37, not 6:37 and iphoto, not iphone. Do you use a Mac? Scrolled way down on the info and it does ID your SX50, f8, 15 seconds at 30 mm.
My 27" HD monitor is great, but unless I enlarge the images a lot the text is real small and hard to read.

I like that second shot very much. When you are composing (either in the camera or afterward), think of what is essential to tell your story. The rest is probably a distraction. In the case of the stream there is some busy icy stuff at the top of the photo. If you cropped lots of that out (probably not all) you would created a diagonal with your stream that would go through your whole composition. I like the perspective in the third shot. In the first shot I would probably try to get the flower group out of the center of the photo. Remember the rule of thirds (you can search the topic on this forum is you are confused about the rule of thirds). Don't worry so much about posting too many photos. If people don't want to comment on it, they can just pass it by. For me, It is interesting to see you using techniques you hear about on the forum and incorporating them in your work. Keep posting.
