I think you are right.

Here is a link of the place where I took the pictures.

St Jacobs is a tourist attraction, but just outside on the farms and farm houses there are no cars etc. ;-)

The Amish are a conservative branch of the Mennonite Church.

I went to a Mennonite High School, (not Mennonite but was one of the best schools in our area).

Mennonites accept higher education and modern technology. Amish feel that the influences of the outside world only interfere with their faith. In most cases they forbid higher education, dress in "plain" clothes, refrain from the use of electricity and use horse-drawn buggies.

With the price of gas sky rocketing I think they may have it right. They grow their own food and for the most part are pretty self sufficient. I used to live not to far from the Amish in PA and it was really refreshing to see a people who are not influenced by the outside world.

It always amazes me how they can be going down a busy road like this and the horses don't just bolt with every passing car.

I hope both of you realize that the Amish were driving their buggies along these same roads before either pavement or cars were here. Amish-raised horses have been walking these roads since they were mere colts, so cars are nothing new, nor scary.

uh, that's new to me then. I did not know that horses could be born already used to cars and trucks.
