I currently have an 18-55mm lense which came with my Nikon d70. I want to get a zoom lense. I found a Quantatary 100-300mm and a Tamron 70-300mm. Both are AF and in excellent condition. Which would be my better choice? Which would I be happier with?

Thank you! I had a 70-300 for my film camera and loved it. Different brand though.

Get the one with the biggest lens hood. This is to make sure your lovely D70 can be stood so the back screen forms a nice stable platform on which to chop up and snort the odd line when your out in the field.
Saves you carrying a mirror which is dead giveaway if stopped by the cops.
Enjoy bro

When are people going to quit misspelling "lens"? The word only has one "e" in it! When you are referring to more than one lens, then you add a 2nd "e" as in "lenses."

You'll drive yourself nuts trying to correct the spelling and/or word usage here.

Len, lense, len's
Misuse of your vs you're, advise vs advice, their vs they're vs there.
The list goes on.

Just remember, this is not a grammar forum, it's a photography forum and you'll be ok.
Read what the posters are saying, not how they say it.

I'd advise the lightest if handholding it. For me lighter is better.

The Tamron would be my first choice, Charlene.
I own two Tamron's, a 150-600mm, and a 180mm 1:1 Macro Lenses. (Plural) ;)

The only thing I'd change if you can is to get a lower number on the bottom end.
For example, a 16-300mm. A most outstanding All-in-one, walk about lens. (Singular) ;)

But the 70-300mm should be a really great lens as well.

Which would you be happier with? Golly, I think only you could actually answer that question.

Have fun! :-D

(And don't listen to the word mongers. They don't have a life. ;) )

The Tamron is the better lens. Tamron has made several versions of that lens. Only the current 70-300 VC is stabilized. The non-VC lens is not an expensive lens. How much are they asking? Is it a new lens or used?
