Is this lens any good? Seems awfully low-priced at $300 for a wide angle lens. I'm not expecting miracles from it, but can anyone weigh in as to their results and experiences using it?

Excellent!! Love it, as do others on this site. It has received very favorable reviews.

I guess the lightweight construction is a turn-off for some, but how many people break their lenses? :)

I'll find some of my topics where I used the lens, and post the links.

I have been very pleased with the sharpness if the pictures taken with it. Body is plastic but the lens feels sturdy mounted on camera I rented one before purchasing and both lenses performed the same.

The reviews are all extremely positive. It is lighter weight construction than the more expensive EF-S 10-22 which I have but there are multiple things to consider.

The high standard for quality Canon glass is the L series. There are no EF-S (crop form factor) L series lenses. Part of that is about weather sealing and construction designed for the constant punishing use of professionals.

Then there are optics. Many consider the 10-22 to have 'L' quality optics.

Some have suggested that the 10 -18 has equal or superior optics to the 10 - 22. It is not quite as robust in construction as the 10 - 22, but most Canon lenses are built pretty well, it depends how roughly you wish to treat them.

Although I haven't used the 10 - 18, reports from trusted individuals on UHH suggest that it is an excellent lens and extremely good value. Linda is most certainly one of those, but there are many more.

I think it would be a good purchase, and if I didn't have the 10-22 I would have bought one in a heartbeat.

Good luck

For the Canon crop sensor shooters there is no lower cost choice that will give as good of quality images. Its a good choice for anyone needing the occasional ultra-wide but not planning to change it regularly. It has the same plastic bayonet mount as the base kit lenses.

The real value is catch a sale on a refurbished model. Have to watch when there available. The only problem with plastic build lenses is the sunshade when hit hard may knock the front element off.

I was shooting a concert with the 18-55 and was accidently knocked over fell on the camera and lens with a one point landing on my chest. My pec was torn and took a year to rehab it. The filter was broke and jammed on threads worked it out and gave it to friend who is still using it.

I have a super sharp copy of the EFs 10-22, if did not own this lens and shoot a crop sensor I would buy the 10-18 refurbished. Good luck & shooting, J. R.

I have it and IMHO it is worth more than Canon charges for it.

I absolutely love it! Best $300 I ever spent. No, it;s not built like an "L" lens, but the IQ is fantastic as far as I'm concerned.

Remarkably good results with mine. Sharp across the image. Very little barrel distortion from 11mm up. Even at 10 mm the barrel distortion is quite acceptable. Low chromatic aberration. AF is dead quiet, fast and very accurate. It's inexpensive because it's got a low end kit lens build and feel and is small and very light. But that's not a reason to avoid it. This lens is a bargain.

Well said. IMHO it's on the same level as the "nifty fifty" in terms of bang for the buck!
