OK.. I have a flash unit that uses AA batteries only. Does anyone know of anyway to convert it to use with an external Battery pack??? Uses 4 AA batteries. Or is some time of converter/connector/cable that one could use to be able to use the flash with an external battery pack.. Or am I just crazy (Don't answer that!!) I figured if I thought of it there must be something...But, then again...... 8-)

Don't know if will still work or not, but many years ago I took a 4 "AA" cell flash unit and made an external battery for it. I used 4 dowel pieces the size of "AA" batteries with a nail in 2 of them that would contact the proper contacts in the flash and then had the wires running from those nails thru a notch on the battery door and going to a 6-volt lantern battery. Worked very good, but not a good idea to take too many shots in a short time as the flash could over-heat.

I have NOT tried it with newer flash units so CANNOT say whether or not it would be SAFE to do this type of conversion.

Yes there are somethings. But.... they're bulky, expensive and will only work with some flash units.

For us mere mortals, I can get hundreds of flashes from a single charge, and only a few seconds to change to a second or third set of AA's which are inexpensive and easily transported.

Most all Pro and Semi-Pro have provisions for external power packs, and there are many aftermarket brands available. Just search for your model since you did not post what unit you are referring to.

I use Quantum Instruments Turbo battery packs with my Nikon SB-900. They work great. But..... be careful. I use mine at night, on full power and if you are not careful, you can burn up the flash. See instruction manual for number of full power flashes before you have to let the flash cool down. Yes, there is an internal sensor that will shut off the flash. and yes, I have burned one up!

I used my Canon flash units with a Quantum battery pack for several years. All you need is the cable that can be purchased from Quantum to fit your flash unit.

What I have is one of the Yon..... (Spelling) 568 flashes that does not have a external port for a power pak. Just though it could be rigged (for lack of a better word) to be use with an external pack..

You are correct, with the Yongnou units you have no alternative power options beyond a DIY challenge.

Thanks MT...... No problem.....I still have my SB900 that I use with the external Pak...Just thought I would throw that out there and see if there were some options. With today's technology you never know what you can find to make things work in another way. 8-)

There is a Yongnuo external battery pack which should fit your flash (see pictures)!

The 568 does not offer a port for external batteries at all. No idea what model your pic shows since you don't reference what model it is. (You may be showing the 565 model, which I believe did add the external battery compatibility feature.)
Yongnuo does make battery packs for Nikon, Canon and Sony flashes that have an external battery connector port:

That's a 560 II.
Amazing that the newer model from the same series doesn't have that feature.
