I plan on purchasing light room and a new computer. What are your recommendations regarding how to learn light room? What educational videos or down loads might you recommend? Any suggestions on computers under $2,500

You need a minimum of 16bit for lightroom so specify 32bit win 7 for PC (Win 8.1 sucks and will be replaced shortly but don.t hold your breath)

An iMac and Scott Kelby's latest Lightroom Book.

Might want to hold off a month or so, Lightroom 6 has been announced and I think the release date is mid March 2015.

to run lightroom 5 you will need a 64 bit processor and operating system with windows that would be at least windows 7. As much memory as it will hold (at least 8 meg, 16 preferred and up to 32 meg ideal)I would consider a very large hard drive to store photos and a solid state drive that will contain your operating system and application software. A large monitor or even 2 would also be a good to have. I had a desk top built a few months back and it ran about 1800 for an I7 4 core processor, a 2 terabyte hard drive, a 256 mb ssd drive, a good graphics card and a 3 tb external backup drive and 16 mb of internal memory. I already had a 27 inch monitor and now looking to add a second drive, It is

EDucation. there are a lot of free videos for learning lightroom start with Julian Kost, she teaches for adobe. Then just search on google and you will find lots of alternatives. If you sign up for the monthly CC from Adobe which includes LR and PS and bridge... You also get a free month of Kelbyone training. I susbscribe to Kelbyone and Lynda.com. Once you learn lightroom fundamentals, check out youtube (serge ramelli), he has almost 200 short videos out there for free that will teach you some technique on how to add drama and make your photos pop!

Phil Steele & Anthony Morganti both have excellent videos on You Tube for free, and paid through them as well. I just purchased my new Mac with several upgrades for $2400 and change. If you never used a Mac you will love it.

Morganti offers easy to understand tutorials on youtube. If your willing to spend the money, many people love there Macs. I've been a PC user for 20 years and I have a reliable platform with Windows 7. Choose within your budget and comfort level.

I would like to thank everyone for their help. I've been looking at Dell and Mac. I live in the country and I'll be making a trip to the city to look at Macs and Dell computers. I appreciate everyone's suggestions. It appears that I can pay a lot more for the price with Dell over Mac. I'll find out tomorrow. Thank you for the info regarding-Lightroom 6 has been announced and I think the release date is mid March 2015. If I find a computer with Windows 7 would that be better to buy instead of Windows 8?

If you ever want to use more than 4GB of RAM, DO NOT buy a computer with a 32bit version of Windows. Make sure you're getting 64 Bit.

IF you are buying a new computer, get it with Windows 8.1. There is no point in buying a modern computer with a 6 year old operating system (Windows 7). Get an operating system that can take full advantage of your new, modern hardware.

8 isn't really that different, you can install Start8 (this is what we use in our company for the folks that can't adjust to regular Windows 8) for $5 and get a classic Start menu, you'll never know the difference between 7 and 8, other than the better performance you are getting using a modern operating system.
