I note that they do allow photography but have a restriction against "professional equipment" and no set ups with tripods, monopods, etc. Can anyone elaborate or relate their shooting experience there? I understand that there are to be no photos taken in the Memorial section itself(nor should there be).

I had no problem whatsoever carrying my Nikon D610 with a 24-70 lens. The plaza was loaded with people many also carrying cameras and shooting. ;)

Great! I will be shooting a Sony SLA65 with a 18-270, so that should not be a problem, then. Thank you so much for your response. Any other suggestions for shooting around there?

Try to get the tree on the plaza that survived the collapse of the towers. It might prove a challenge. When I was there (summer) there were so many people on the plaza I didn't get a worthwhile photo of it. Since it will be colder when you are there there should be less people milling around. There is a great story behind how this tree lived and was able to survive. Bonus would be you could get it w/o its leaves to better see it. :)

It's a very moving both the plaza and in the museum. You need minimum 4 hours inside and a fast lens. Also bring some food .

We were there in March of '12 just before the museum was completed. We were free to shot photos and i recall many people doing the same.
