Astronomery And The Canon SX 50

After getting a Canon SX 50 point & shoot camera about a year ago I set aside my telescope and just used the camera stand alone. All these shots were handheld. I did do some post processing but not much. Just sharpen a little,
adjust light and crop. It still amazes me what you can do without a telescope.

I do not know what type of telescope and mount you are no longer using but it may be feasible to still use the mount for tracking and longer exposures. For the planets and the moon there would not be much of a gain in signal to noise but with some of the dimmer objects it could make a difference of night and day, mind the pun.

I am continually impressed by the IQ of the SX50 especially in the realm that it is really unsuited for, like astroimaging.

BTW I love your compilation of your different subjects and how you arranged them.

Thanks,
Matthew

Very nice! I'm impressed especially with the images of Mars, Mercury and Venus. All hard to get. I also like the composition. Makes me want to sell my telescopes and get an SX 50!

The scope I have is a Stellarvue 70 mm. I have taken some great shots thru it. But this camera is a lot more easy on me. I am 72 . It just amazes me what
you can do with just a camera. This would be un- heard of 10 years ago.

Oh yeah! The Stellarvue 70 Is a good scope, but no where near up to the task of taking plantary pictures! But I have been very impressed by what I've seen people doing with that SX50. You did well on the moon also, it looks sharp and natural.
