I'm not a guy but I'll answer anyway... Feel free to ignore me if you don't want gals in the conversation.

First thing that comes to mind, is the lens seated properly on the camera? When you mount it, do you hear a "click" or whatever sound your setup is supposed to make.
Do you use just one lens on your camera?

I don't want to be the language arts police, but with the statement "my lenses doesn't always" you could mean "my lens doesn't always" or "my lenses don't always".

So - if you have only one lens, are you sure it is the lens that register the press on the shutter release button? Might it be something wrong in the shutter release system, or even the shutter itself?
If you have more than one lens that you use on that camera, do they all behave in the same way? Or do some react to you pressing the shutter release button, and one does not? Yes, in that case it would be time to take the lens to the lens doctor to find out if it has a curable disease.

Could you describe the problem in more detail? When you press the shutter release button, do you feel resistance? Is there any sound at all? Can you think of anything else that is supposed to happen but doesn't? Or that happens and it not supposed to?

Just thought about something else: Are you far enough away from your subject? With some lenses you have to be at least 5 or 6 feet away, with others you could be as close as 5 or 6 inches.

What camera - what lens - ???
Does it work with another lens?
Some cameras will not shoot if out of focus or exposure is not correct - check you settings and manual to see if this could be the case

Some will not shoot if the lens has an aperture ring and it isn't set to the smallest aperture.

anyone nearby that has another canon body that you could try the lens on to see if it behaves the same for them?

MorningStar is correct, your grammar there makes for an arbitrary question. Were you implying a situation with "a lens" or lenses used on "a body". The gender "guys" is more forgiving as these days "guy" does not have to mean "male". I hear females collectively use the term guy when talking about themselves. But saying "Hey people..." or "Hey fellow UHH'ers..." might be safer. I'm having more problem with the reply's word "lense". Is Canon making German or French lenses or something? Or are we going back to possibly Elizabethan English spellings? Slow down, proof read. The UHH interface has a built-in spell checking. It is currently flagging your "mybay" for "maybe." It is not just you, the WEB is aflame with misspellings, poor grammar, and typos. I do it to (but try to avoid it).

Not sure I understand the question...none of my lenses register anything, the camera does it all...all my lenses do is auto focus, the camera does the rest..??

Do you mean that the lens doesn't focus when you press the shutter button? Or do you mean that the VR doesn't start when you press the shutter button? Lenses generally don't 'register' anything. They just focus and vibration correct.

What the he__ are you asking about?

Have you tried going to a camera store and demonstrating the problem to them using the camera & lens in question?
