I hope no one is getting tired of my eagle photos. I can spend all day sitting along the river and watching them. Gives me lots of practice with panning.

I cropped the second photo so that you can see the water splash where the fish was grabbed. I thought it made for a little more dramatic photo since the eagle is going away from the camera.

I watch a lot of the eagles eat the fish in flight then go back for another. I counted 30 eagles in about a 1 mile stretch along the river one day last week. Lots of photo opportunities.

30 in a 1 mile stretch, that is awesome. i never would've thought of nebraska being such a hot spot. our bald eagles are making a comeback. I've never seen 30 though. i was screaming when i saw 2 together. there is a reservoir about a half hour from my house that has a breeding pair. they have produced triplets 5 years in a row but they seem to like fresh water and I'm on the ocean. i would love to see their offspring head towards me! gary

Nebraska has lots of eagles year round but more during the winter. I go to Gavins Point Dam in Yankton, SD, an hour drive straight north of my home. The Dam is on the Missouri River and has open water year round. In the early winter the eagles will be found along the river and Lewis and Clark Lake above the dam but when the lake freezes over, they congregate along the river.
