Looking for an older Gitzo Studex

With so many hand holding and going light, I wondered if there was an older Gitzo Studex kicking around in some garage, closet, truck or shop?

I sold mine a couple of years ago and bought a Manfroto 055XPROB. It's light, sturdy enough for most people, very flexible and easy to manipulate. BUT I'm 6ft 4in and tired of bending over all the time.

I want an old, tough, tall, heavy, sturdy set of legs again. So if you: have, know about, or can recommend where I might look PLEASE give me a call or reply here.
Thanks,

I don't remember. Basicly, I am looking for a stout tripod that is 60-61 in. tall without a center post. Thanks for looking. What were your search words on Google? Thanks again.

I just went through this exercise myself. I'm 6'4" and wanted a taller tripod. Go to B&H and to tripods. On the left side of the screen there are several parameters you can check off. Put in 180.00 to 240.00 and you will get a pretty extensive list. Oben, Induro, Vanguard, Sirui, Giotto, and Benro all have pods that are from 5.5 to 6ft maximum extension without the center post extension. The ones I looked at all support around 40# and have spiked feet that either retract or replace the rubber feet for outdoor use. I chose the Sirui because it folds to 20" and lends itself to backpack carry better than the others. On the models I was looking for B&H has some great buys right now. You will see some of the models in that price range that are anywhere from 30.00 to 130.00 below the list price. The one I purchased is selling elsewhere on line for 365.00 and at B&H I paid 229.00.
While Carter is a great source for a lot of photo information, I think he tends to deal mostly in top drawer merchandise. I sent him a list of all the pods l just listed and he replied he doesn't see those brands out west. I think he'll recommend a Manfrotto or Gitzo which of course are probably the best but for a pod the size we're looking at will run 450.00 to 900.00.

I've got actually a couple of Gitzo series 5 tripods that I've used in video production, model 505 I think. They are three sections. I will measure how far they extend out. I don't have the center post however, but you can buy that, or the one that has a crank/gear. If you are interested I will take pics/measurements. I have two Gitzo aluminums that I use--another series 5 and a series 3. These are solid, heavy-duty tripods.

Just received the Sirui today. A very nice pod. The center post is in two pieces. When separated the shorter part will allow very low placement of camera. One leg will screw off to make a monopod. The legs fold back 180 degrees so that the folded length is only around 20". It comes with a very nice bag and a full set of allen wrenches.

I don't want a center post, but when the legs are spread, it needs to be 60 or 61 inches high. Yes, I would be interested. My phone number is 360-753-4886 and email is rbh10@comcast.net.
