Drove for 1 and 1/2 hours one way. Second year of really looking hard for a snow owl. Shot with a Canon 7D , 300mm f/2.8 and a Canon 2X III through a freezing drizzle at 27 degrees. Shot off a RRS tripod and Jobu gimbal. Stood under the tailgate of an SUV to stay dry. The owl was about 100 yards away. Will try again next week.

Thanks, normally I wouldn't have taken such a long shot under those conditions but it was the first one I've seen.
 Great catch, like the perch, it adds to the picture.

Thanks, there have been three reported in that area and we are waiting for some WX without freezing drizzle or rain. Hopefully we can get closer this time. Finding one of the snowy owls here is like finding a needle in a hay stack.

Thanks! Maybe next week I won't have to shoot such a long shot through the rain. They're a spooky bird but if your lucky you may be able to get close as some shooters here have been able to do. Sometimes (many) you wish you had a longer lens.
I like the contrast - rusty metal and soft white feathers of the owl - beautiful;)

Thanks Susan, the owl was sitting on an old drilling rig and with the drizzle and fog the rusty wheels gave it some color. That owl is a male, you can tell by the color. We will be back there this week and try for some more. Thanks again...Ron
