The image quality between the D700 (FX) & D7000 (DX) ais very close! The D700 is maybe a tad bit sharper, but cetainly no deal breaker. Noise is just about the same. It's also very loud comparinson to the D7000, if that kind of noise is a concern.

You're saying the D700 is louder that the D7000?

Head-turning louder. I did a comparison shoot last week and literally had people turning their heads. After the test, I realized the D7000 also had a quiet mode. Also tested the D300s- not even in the same game. I'm considering using the D7000 I borrowed for an Irish band (Chieftans) concert shoot coming up. I'll be right next to paying audience members and don't want to cause a rukus. Keep in mind, the test is at 3200 iso and is a small section of the frame.
