For those of you who have never been underwater and those of you who have. The Underwater Photography forum is up and running. There have been some amazing photos posted by some of our members. Go check it out, who knows maybe the next David Doubelet or Stan Waterman is in our midst. A wonderful place to shoot and play our Blue Planet awaits.

Coral Reef in the Caribbean
The Red Sea (Anthius are the fish)
Tridachna (the Giant Clam, they move so slow they would not be able to trap your foot)
I'm gona like this, some great stuff.
Hay does buying aquarium, stocking it well, getting near and under your display qualify you as a under water photographer?...
Just kidding, can't hardly wait till I can have a chance to do some of this.

Great colors. When I was doing scuba, I had a common underwater camera - Sea and Ski, or something like that. It was a flim camera, of course, and it worked OK. I also had a video housing for my Sony camcorder. I'm glad I'm no longer doing scuba because I'd be tempted to buy good (expensive) equipment.

Checkmark,
As someone who has been diving since 1958, I can tell you this. It is an amazing world beneath the sea, those who get to partake of its majesty and beauty can't wait to share. You will never regret getting certified.

Jerry,
No reason you can't still go dive, hell my oldest student was 74 years old and loved diving. Hell I will lend you one of my Nikonos Vs and the 16mm lens.

It's not age, since I'm still a young man (and always will be). I have all my equipment, but my interests have changed. Most of the good diving I did involved long-distance travel - to warm, pretty water.
The first trip I went on was as part of a small group from a dive shop. It was snowing hard at Newark Airport, and the plane had engine trouble. We could see the guys out there in their big coats, with their lights and tools. We didn't have much confidence in the plane when we finally got on, five hours late, after midnight. Then the pilot tried to reassure us about "the heavy ice build-up on the plane." It turned out to be a nice trip, anyway.
Thanks George
I've been knocking around the idea about learning to dive. yet center mid- westerner doesn't make it exactly convenant either to take the afternoon off and go swimming. thanks for the reply, lookn forward to keeping a eye on this forum, it may push me over the top to give it a whirl.

Jerry,
I am fortunate enough to have a great dive site 15 minutes from my house. The Beach 6th to 9th St Area of Far Rockaway. I have trained many divers in this area and because they learned to dive in dark water (nutrient rich=food) they are comfortable diving anywhere. Only one caveat they have to be careful of the depth they can see to. Have to look for some photos of the area, right near the Atlantic Beach Bridge going into Atlantic Beach and Long Beach.

I thought the same thing when I started taking scuba lessons in the Catskill Mountains! Unless you live in the right area, diving becomes centered around dive travel. I've gone on a few trips that were organized by dive shops. My best experience was on a dive boat for a week. It was a converted ship, and the week I was on it, there were under 40 divers - in the British Virgin Islands. Outstanding! The low price included airfare, transfers, all meals, and three dives a day. Ah, memories.
I can heartily recommend scuba diving to anyone. It's even better than you see in videos.

I used to live not far from that area - East Rockaway (not Far Rockaway, which it totally different). It was a good place to grow up.
Ty, my enthusiasm is building, hay what then heck spring is fast approaching it wouldn't hurt to start the inquiring. Rome wasn't built in a day, regrets are harmful
We were spearfishing under that bridge in late 70's, a school of sharks swam thru going out, they looked like submarines in the dark water. [ don't know how far in they went, but it certainly was an awakening !]
Did I miss the link? How do you get there?
I'm watching the "price is Right" what a coincidence, the final show case is two complete outfits of scuba gear, with a trip to Australia.
