Our days in Laos were very busy as we left Thailand late due to flight rescheduling, so they really packed in the activities.
After a morning walk through the village of Ban Sanghai, and a talk about how they make rice wine in this town--the sample taste was very strong!
We then ended up at the banks of the Mekong River. Here we boarded a boat for a relaxing ride,a stop at the Pak Ou Caves, and lunch served on the boat.
it was interesting to see the farms and villages along the lake
A very scenic ride
we climbed many steps to get to the upper and lower caves. These caves were filled with hundreds of Budha images looking out towards the river
The boats all had a small kitchen in the back where the wife cooked while the husband drove. It was a very delicious meal
Back on land we toured the Royal Place Museum
We had some time to walk through a market area. As a craft show vendor, I could really relate to these people selling their wares, but I could not have survived sitting on the sidewalk everyday from early morning till dark
bright colors everywhere
then we climbed another 300 plus steps to the top of Phousi Mountain where everybody goes for the view at sunset. Very crowded up there with not much space for standing. We climbed up on a small ledge to get above the heads and were glad we did
After all that we decided we needed a hamburger and friesand a couple of beers! Caught the bus back to the hotel at the designated time and a lot of the group decided to sit in the beautiful hot tub that night--I wish my photo of it had turned out better

Wow! What a trip you had, Katherine! Beautiful, fantastic photos! The decorations on the palace remind me of the ones on the pagoda that Al and I vistited a few months ago. They seem to be big on dragons and lions and even fish sometimes in their decorations. :) Thanks for taking us along!
Just gorgeous, Katherine! Thanks for bringing us along! :)
Beautiful images, especially the parasols. Very colorful and sharp focus. TFS.
Fine images that could be shown to young American students in learning about universal differences and acceptance of cultures beyond our own.
thanks again to all for looking and following
it was a great experience. I came back with a different perspective on things and young people should all have the chance to see how others live and appreciate all thy have
