Well, I for one am a Canon guy that just recently is considering a Nikon. I have a Canon 60D that is seriously thinking about the purchase of the Nikon 7100. As I keep reading reviews that in most articles I've read the quality of the photos are better. Just a beginner so any debate as to another camera suggestion will be helpful!
Ya might want to look at the Canon 7D MKII.

I've watched a lot of sports and it appears most of the professional photographers I see are using the white lens with red circle.....Canon...
Nikon shooters have noticed that as well, much to their chagrin!

In movies, product placement earns dollars for producers, could it be true of camera users too?

In the classifieds why is it nearly always Canon for sale and seldom Nikon?
The answer is obvious, if you have a Nikon you are not going to get rid of it.
I await the insults.
Your post is hardly objective and obviously slanted towards your preference of camera manufacturer's, and it's doubtful you're even looking for an objective answer, but:
Location's across the country will vary on camera preference. And of course some vendors advertise more than others.
It comes down to personal preference. Both are excellent camera's. Both centered in Japan, both Japanese brands.
Have you queried several major US cities for brand advertisement? And even if so, that's a poor measure of quality or number of sales. Sometimes it's not even a brand selection, but a cost analysis. An objective person would have no problem with a quality competitor, as Nikon is.
Personal preference my friend. Neither camera can be knocked. They are both excellent, and while one might do one thing better than the other, the slate is pretty even when the score is taken. And you'll go crazy trying to win an argument, simply by citing statistics.
It's been said that Mark Twain stated that there are 3 kinds of lies:
1 Lies
2 Dam Lies and
3 Statistics

In your dreams fella. No comparison. My son was a marine, but not a Nikon user. He scoffs at Nikon conceit, as do all thinking people. Nikon users are like the guys who would by a big flashy Cadillac and drive it around the neighborhood so everybody could see him in his big new car.
PS my Dad was a Marine and an Uncles as well in WWII and both in Korea also and quite decorated.
