I am interested in photographing the fireworks in NYC on July 4th. I will be coming up from Philly and need some help for locations. I have read that Brooklyn offers the best overall views but hope that someone here has some first-hand knowledge. I am looking for a site that is tripod friendly and relatively unobstructed. I am willing to spend the day to "hold" a spot but am not sure where to start looking.
Thanks
Michael

Always thought Washington D C had great fireworks on the 4th.
Anywhere just south of the Brooklyn bridge along the Brooklyn side of the river.

The Brooklyn promenade, you are elevated above the East River and will be able to get great pictures. A ton of Subways get you to the area so getting access to the location should be no problem. Just get their early to grab a sweet spot for yourself. Just Google "Brooklyn Promenade". Good luck and great shooting, don't forget to post some for us....
First you have to be sure that the fireworks are on the Brooklyn side of Manhattan. Sometimes they're on the NJ side. The best places in Brooklyn are the Brooklyn Heights Promenade and the Brooklyn Bridge Park. Both places will be very crowded. A monopod may be safer than a tripod.

Another place thats close to the action is Long Island City in Western Queens along the shore of the East river Take the Van Dam exit off the Long Island Expy..Van Dam becomes Greenpoint ave. Take it to Franklin ave. Go North and any of the local streets on the left will take you to the shore. It will be very busy so get there early.
There is also a park in Jersey right by the water and the view is unreal. I believe that the name is the Jersey City or Jersey State park. Have to get there in the very, very early AM for sure!
The fireworks are launched from barges in the middle of the East river between Bklyn and Manhattan, just south of the Bklyn bridge. The aforementioned promenade is a prime spot for viewing, virtually millions of viewers there!
I forgot to say:BRING EAR PLUGS, you'll need them for sure!
