I need to get down to learning a Post Processing program and I must decide weather I should pop $80 bucks to upgrade to the latest version of Corel Paint (I have not really tried to learn Corel yet ) or Just subscribe to PS for $10 a month I would like input please especially if you have used both
I have both. PSP on my PC and PSCC on my Macs. I "much prefer" PSCC for $10 a month. You get LR5, ACR, Bridge and PSCC. Further, if you are learning there are hundreds of tutorials on YouTube plus Lynda.com and Kelbyone.com.

I don't want to put down Coral Paint, but for ten bucks a month you'll get a much, much more powerful program/programs (PS-CC &LR), that will do everything for you, no matter how advanced you are, you will always be "covered" (be able what you want to do)! A no-brainer in my mind!
Me I would not want to commit $10 a month forever when I don't even need Photoshop, there are many other alternatives you can utilize and some are FREE and work great for many people. Don't get sucked into the monthly dues if you do not need a complicated editing software. I have Corel paintshop proX7 Ultimate and it does everything I want and it's much cheaper in the long run than Adobe CC.
Try using some of these FREE software programs first if you wish.

I have an affliction about renting software for $120 a year.
I also particularly dislike faked pictures in the name of "What the person behind the camera saw." BS!
So I got Adobe Elements 12 last summer. I bought it (~$60 then) And I own it.
And even at that it gets used very lightly, if at all, and in my opinion is the same bulbous hard drive hogging BS Adobe has always been.
YMMV.

What Rick said, plus at this point you may not need the ultimate version. Paintshop Pro x7 will suit your needs well.
You can also download a free 30 day full function trial from corel.com.
Give it a try. I recommend it. You have nothing to loose.

NormanTheGr8, I am in the same predicament - should I learn Corel's Paintshop Pro x7 or Adobe's Lightroom ?
I am currently using Nikon's View NX2 and sometimes Picasa 3. I use Picasa3 for adding borders but that's it. To adjust sharpness, contrast, brightness, cropping, and all that other stuff for editing JPEGs, I use View NX2. I get pretty good results and cannot justify editing my NEF (RAW) images. And at my age I don't want to tax my feeble brain with all the complications of editing RAW files.

Ssss don't tell any one but I use PSP X-7 and it does more than I need, reason for getting it was I know the commands from many PSP years ... and ... it is 64 bit vs my X5 32 bit.
Cloud PS ... well consider if the FIOS connection goes down for 2 days ... you ... waiting for the tech to replace your modem, then you still have fotofunction.... as Charlton Heston said... "I'll give you my Program disks in favor of Cloud when you pry it from my cold, dead hands"

You are talking about $10 a month vs X-7 that will last you for perhaps 3+ years before upgrading to X-10+. That is a lot of $$ ... invest that in Topaz programs when they have a great sale like this xmas-newyears for the whole package... Topaz works magic. Have fun... hay, what in this coffee?
I had both Corel and Adobe, I uninstalled Corel after 2 weeks.
I had both Corel and Adobe, I uninstalled Corel after 2 weeks. Totally unhappy with it.
I have Elements 10 on 1 computer and 13 on another and bought the programs. I do not like this cloud thing of Adobe at all     I know what is on my computers are mine
And yes, I have read all the hype of using cloud--I think that it is a rip off big time
I also have CS6 and it has all the bells and whistles that I need-heck I haven't used half of them yet. I do not need any new features so for me having paid for a program that I know is mine was the way to go

Remember this - Adobe has all the features, but the eighty twenty rule applies. Eight percent of the users only use 20%, or less, of the features. PSP has more then you'll ever need or use. It's an excellent program.

I have had Corel since it first came out with the PSP program. I'm now on version 7. It's a powerful program that will do virtually anything Adobe will with photographs. It will not accept as many plug ins that extend the usefulness of Photo Shop for creative uses that would be used in the printing of posters, magazine pages, or in the gaming world. Photo Shop is very intense and much harder to learn than PSP but once you learn it, it opens a whole new world of expression that extends beyond just normal photography. If you go with Photo Shop, I would recommend you sign up for a class to get the basics down. I am signed up with CCS for 10.00 a month but rarely use it because I can do almost everything I need to do with PSP. If you are just starting out and can get support or help from a local photo/computer club or if there is a local school that offers a class in Photo Shop, go with that program. It will be easier to learn the difficult program and fall back on PSP or Lightroom or Elements when you understand the more difficult aspects of these programs like masks and layers. The other problem with PSP is there is very little help with the program. Only a book or two if you can even find them, and no one I know offers classes in PSP.
One other thought about "renting" Adobe on the cloud: The value of doing this is that every minor change as well as major changes to the program are instantly in your program. You could buy Photo Shop for 450 - 699 dollars and have an out of date program two years down the pike. Then in four years you'll be putting out another big sum for an updated version which again will be out of date in another two years. If you look at all the threads concerning Photo Shop, almost everyone talks about PS6. You see, no one is still using PS2 or PS3, so what does that tell you?
