No Lovejoy

Hi All
Searching for Lovejoy during the first clear night here in the south of England with no luck but managed these.
Both shot with:-
Nikon D90, Sigma 150-500mm

Can any one help with identifying #1, photographed toward the south west

2s exp - f6.3 - 3200 iso @ 400mm
2s exp - f6.3 - 3200 iso @ 400mm...

Well number 1 is Luna or better known as the moon. I think #2 is what you were asking about. Hard to tell without opening my planetarium software and without knowing the time or exact area of sky shooting, but probably M42 or the great Nebula in Orion.
If that was Orion, Lovejoy would have been a little bit further to the west with the belt of Orion pointing pretty close to where it can be found.

Many Thanks Matthew, I had no idea the 150-500mm lens could capture the potential M42. The sky observatory app on my phone suggested it was M42, looking from that location at 23.26hrs. If skies permit I will be out again tonight

I agree 98% Great Orion Nebula on #2 shot. And nice shot of the Moon.
