Galena Area... Reno, Nevada

The Galena Area covers about a six mile area below the summit of Mt. Rose Mountain. A few pictures taken around there. There are no traces of the once bustling town of Galena, where the marker stands, now just houses.

Nice! I live just a few miles north of Galeena. Went through it yesterday on the way to Incline to try and get a good sunset.

I'm on the wrong side of the mountain for sunsets, but do get some nice sunrises....;0) I have to go over the hill for the sunsets too. Hard to find a good spot on this side for evening shots, with the mountains in the fore ground. Have you found any? Where you able to get a good one yesterday?

Thanks...Mike

The light and colors just didn't happen yesterday. There s a scenic pull out going up Geiger grade (432) and it gives a great view of the mountains and sunsets. Really good sunrise shots too when the light begins reflecting off the snow.

Hi gm.... Sorry the sunset didn't work out. I have taken shots from Geiger Grade, but it's a little too high for me. I was looking for something closer to the valley, looking a little more up at the mountains, without getting all the lamp posts and wires in the shot, if that's possible....;0) I did a panorama from Geiger Grade, it was either a 5 or 6 shot one. It's in the on going panorama section here.

If I ever find one, I'll let you know.... Thanks

I absolutely love your pics, especially the Galena Creek photos and the cow chute, also the last picture. Would love to own property like that.

Thanks Brad... I appreciate that. There are many beautiful areas around Reno, from pine coverd mountains to high desert. The last one is about a block from the Galena Sign, the first picture. No sign any of that ever existed.

Ahhhhh, makes me homesick. I was raised in Old Washoe City. Great place to grow up. Now I'm in Southern California and can only dream of the days of waking up to the magpies and meadowlarks. I do visit a couple times a year and will be there for the Air Races.

Sontog.... I did just the opposit. Spent 36 years in San Diego, and the past 16 here in the Reno area....;0) We have 5" of new snow this morning, something you don't have to worry about....

Still haven't heard if they will have the air races this year or not, after last years crash. Still up in the air. I haven't been for a few years, but they are really something to see. I sure hope they don't get cancelled.
