I am in the market for a new printer.
I currently have an old Epson R1800 & am having problems with it.
Is Epson still the best or does HP market a professional printer? Thanks for any advice. The Epson cartridges are so small.

My 1800 is still chugging along. I'm worried about continued ink supply.

Yes, Epson remains the best choice.

If you want super high quality, Epson recently came out with the Surecolor P600 it can print 11X14, the only issue with it is it cost about $800.00

Epson. I have a Stylus Photo R3000 and love it plus a CX9400fax for everyday stuff.

I've always had Epson's back to the dot-matrix days and probably always will, unless they get crappy. Since they are owned by Seiko the watch manufacturer I think their commitment to detail is fantastic. I own a couple Seiko's too. Great wristwatch.

111, Epsons are still among the best, and for many years were the best. But the times...., they a change!
I started with an Epson 2200. When it died I went to Canons.
Canons handling of the mat and gloss black inks is just superior.
I still use 5 different Epson 3880's at school but would not buy one. They are great printers but as I said, their handling the black inks is a little archaic.
Lots of Canon Pixma 100's around for very cheap after rebates.
To use a brand just beause it's always been that way, is all the WRONG reasons!
But you won't go wrong with either.
Don't know about HP's. Good luck. ;-)

Ii will mirror SharpShoter here. Yes, Epson makes a number of excellent printers, however I will put prints from my Canon printers up against those from an Epson printer any day, any time. I sell my work at art festivals and galleries and have never had the quality of my prints questioned.

The Canon Pixma Pro 100 has gained a large and loyal following since its introduction. It is often available with big rebates (both Adorama and B&H have it with a $250 mail in until Jan. 31 -your cost $148).

Unless Epson has changed it's technology, be aware that you need to print regularly with an Epson or you will have plugged jets. I print very irregularly, making HP my choice and I believe now Canon. I sometimes will go 3 months without printing any photos.

That sounds like a very important consideration. What technology difference does HP and Canon have here? Any chance you have a link to a technical article on that? Thanks in advance.

Sharpshooter, is the black ink handling only an issue if you are printing B & W or does is cause some issue with color printing also?

I totally agree I have the Epson R265 and its quite old. But the amount of times i have to clean the heads is a problem as it uses 16% ink every time you clean heads. I'm really wanting the Canon Pro 100 now as it prints A3 and amazing reviews, but I am trying to find out if anyone sells the (after market inks) as they are quite expensive for the originals ,,
