My granddaughter was my model. at 18yrs. she does not want a photo with a mouth full of braces. So when mouth closed, lips appear fat or larger than normal. I tried a few things but they all looked fake. Any suggestions??

She is beautiful and those full lips are what the Hollywood stars are paying good money for!! Lovely portrait, Grandpa!
If you have a picture of her smiling you can remove those braces
One day she won't have braces. She might want a copy of her smile with them on for historical purposes.
Suggestion, leave the portrait as it is, you don't always need to see teeth to smile and she has a beautiful smile.
Just my opinion.

Pretty girl, just about perfect, maybe a touch more fill light for better catchlights in the eyes, IMHO, Bob.
leave as is - she looks fine. You did a good job. People don't need to be "perfect" using some kind of editing software.
I agree that the full look of your granddaughter's lips is beautiful, and the look would be envied by any number of young ladies. I would personally change nothing. But, if she thinks the look is unnatural, you can modify it with editing software to better match what she believes represents her 'real' appearance.
If you have Photoshop you can use the "liquify" filter (freeze mask and pucker tools) to quickly reduce the lips to whatever size you want. Just be sure to freeze the surrounding area of the nose and jaw line before using the pucker tool, and make small adjustments.
The following examples are the original, and three successively more aggressive modifications.
Thank you everyone....good comments

Tell her to smile!! Braces are Beautiful!
She's beautiful, Lloyd, and I don't think her lips look "bad"; I'd just leave them alone!
