Please help with suggestion's for background color's and what would be good to use. I want something I can use for general all around use..I want to take picture's of thing's we have around the house..i.e. dolls, jewelry, dishes, pottery, things of that nature. Taking those picture's in my dining room and this is the color of the wall that is my background now as shown in this pic..................Dont know why it looks so gray...wall is actually yellow

Try adjusting your white balance, if thats a yellow wall your color is way off somewhere.

I would suggest using a neutral color for a background such as a light beige or a light tan. Even an off white would work.

First, I'd say check your white balance. Looks like you did.

Now for background colors I'd suggest using a solid color sheet set. Have a couple different colors and use a color that contrasts nicely with the subject you are photographing.

I got a "Studio In A Box" like this a couple years ago. The replacement lights can be had at your grocery store. It worked well for pics I used on eBay auctions.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but in the first photo you filled the frame with the wall, and only the wall. You ended up with 18% grey. As soon as yo introduced some contrast, as in the second photo, your camera was able to reproduce the colors.

For smaller items I made a "light tent" of a large cardboard box, then cut windows in each side, and taped white tracing paper over the windows.

I put in a piece of shiny colored construction paper and so I can photograph smaller objects on any color background (as long as the craft store has shiny paper in whatever color I need) and the tissue paper is the diffuser for the lights or flash.

Just a thought that's almost no cost.
