Anyone have any experience with the Sony Nex-7? My wife is suffering from ALS with severe weaking in both arms. She is no longer able to use my D7100 at all and can use the D3100 with 35mm lenses for short periods of time. She seen Sony Alpha camera that a friend had and she thought it was light enough she could comfortably use it.

B&H has the Sony Alpha Nex-7 with 18 - 55 lenses at very good price today only.

What is anyone's opinion of this camera. Is it about the lightest full function camera available?

Since my wife liked the size of the Sony Alpha Nex-7 camera and no one had an opinion either good or bad I ordered one for her.

Got it with 18x55 lenses from B&H on their deal of the day for less than $600. I thought it was a real good price. Hope it works out ok for her.

I shoot Canon. I have looked at this series of cameras and they look like they are capable of producing great files. I look at it to add too, but not replace my current system.

It sounds like you are a great guy! It sounds like you your lady is well cared for.

I own a NEX7 along with a Nikon D610. The reason I purchased the Sony was for the light weight and its a good camera except for the menu which sucks. It's takes a while to set it up to way you like but once it's set up its OK.

My NEX-7 is very good and light the menus are not that bad my only issue is that it focus very slow.

And if you could swing the A6000 it focuses faster and has WiFi.

Dear Earl,

I recently traded in my NEX7 . It is a great little camera and I took some of the best photos I've ever shot . And I own middle end Nikon, Canon, Sony and others. It is a little slow focusing and the kit lens is a little short for my needs. But it takes excellent shots. I used long telephoto - 18 - 200 lens on it but it makes the whole unit a little heavier. Otherwise it took beautiful photos. Hope this helps.

Earl,
Go for the A6000. At B&H it is $550 for the body and $700 with a 16-50mm lens.

Check this video out about the A6000

Good luck!

If you can get the newer A6000 for around the same price, go for it, otherwise the Nex-7 is a great deal at that price. The newer A6000 has much faster performance and slightly better IQ. However, the Nex-7 does have better build quality and its 18-55 kit lens is better than that on the A6000

I still have the nex 7 and your price was excellent.
The a6000 was mentioned and the body could have been
had for $400. Newer faster etc. But the nex 7 is one of
my favorite cameras with Viewfinder and feels great.
Good luc.

I thank everyone who responded for your thoughts on SONY camera's. I had already ordered the Nex-7 to take advantage of the $598 one day price from B&H. Other wise, I would probably have considered the Sony 6000. My wife will probably do a limited amount of shooting with the Nex-7 as her ALS is progressing rapidly. I watched the video about the Sony 6000 and I may consider the Sony full frame mirrowless as my next camera for myself. I am not getting any younger and don't do well carrying heavy loads.

I have the NEX-6 and it is a great camera. It is so light with the 16-50 pz lens that you can walk around with it around your neck like a necklace.

I have the NEX-7, the sony A7, and the Canon 5DmIII ... the NEX7 is a great little camera and she will not be disappointed by the results. There are aways better, faster, etc. but it is a great little camera with surprisingly good results.
Lots of luck to both of you ...

you hang in there Bro. And I hope you and your have a good year taking pictures with her new camera . what do you like shooting . your neighbour hood , buildings . senics . sun sets , birds , or a bit of it all , . I'm having a time keeping up with the steller jays and northern flickers . ther eating me out of home and house . that suet cost more than dog food . hay maybe I'll try a
can of that, as I recall we fed our dog a can of dr.ballads a day a half can in the am and the other half at supper table scraps . and it was ten cents a can
then it went up to 15 cents a can , so my mom switched to husky which was
a new brand because it was 10cents . I don't king or black knew the difference . take care .
