Canon 7D Mark II Bug

My 7D Mk II was not showing the AF Point in LCD when I reviewed the photo. This is the little red square that shows where the camera focused. I could get the red square to show when I put an old EF-S 18-55mm lens on it. On my other lens such as the 24-105mm, the red square did not show. This concerned me since all was fine over the weekend.

What was different now? What setting did I change?

I am happy to say that I have resolved the issue. I tracked it down to "Lens Aberration Correction". Distortion "Disable" - focus points appear in preview image on LCD display. Distortion "Enable" - focus points disappear. Distortion "Disable" - focus points re-appear.

I can recreate the focus point issue by changing the Distortion setting.

I am a happy camper now. I guess I will keep the 'Distortion' correction disabled for now.

I'm glad it helped. At first I thought I was going crazy trying to figure out the problem.

May I ask a dumb question? Im loaded with them. Why do you need to see the focusing point after you took the shot? Wouldn't you have already set it up in the menu? Was it a quick "grab shot"? I just bought my first dslr about 1.5 months ago (7DII). I have had 35 mm cameras since the mid 60s. Still own a Canon F1. I've spent most of this time (1.5 mos) learning the terminology and features and functions of this things. At first, it was intimidating but the more I play with the thing and then read instructions the better I'm getting and the more I'm understanding. Next is the processing portion of the course which is also time consuming and intimidating. Jeez. LOL

I like to be able to go back and check my focusing. Also, when using any of the tracking AF modes, I can quickly see where the camera focused. I use this info to help me improve my technique.
