I have a 300m f4 L Canon that has always been tack sharp In the past on 7d and 5dm3, but today while out with new 7dm2 I cant seem to get the same sharpness out of it. Any thoughts. Please stay on topic with answers, thanks.

As long as I focus correctly, I've never had this problem with any of my lenses on any of my cameras. Cannot offer any other solution than to check your focus, and ensure your not getting camera vibrations.

Cleaning the connectors might help. The pictures on my system were getting noisy and soft all of a sudden - cleaned the connectors on the lens and the camera and the problem went away -

You may have to make a micro-focus adjustment

not at all uncommon.

Many users of the new 7D2 are experiencing focus issues. Always use the Micro Tune feature of the body if it has one, and yours does, as it will always improve results.

It is always recommended, yes. Its the best way to make sure you are getting the best performance out of your lenses.

A lens has no mind of it's own. It will do only as it is told. Sounds as though you may have an unintended communications problem. The 5 and the 7 have similar AF systems. Check your 7's menus and see if you can find what needs to be tweaked. You might have need for a micro-adjustment in the 7. Just a guess.

update and start with thanks for the input. I believe I learned that I forgot I had the 300 on a crop camera body and not the 70-200. Turns out I was standing too close to the subject by about six inches. Went out today and had success. both lens and camera working well.

The buck is a money shot! Fantastic composition. Wildlife mags would kill for that shot. Great work!

Both the woodpecker and the buck are magazine cover worthy shots. The second shot would be a very good illustration inside.

Very nice work.

And while the camera lens combo my be great, most of the credit goes to you.
