Canon printer front door won't close

I have a Canon MG8220 printer. It doesn't get much use.
The "front door" will not close when I'm done printing.
I try to pull up the door which should ordinarily close it.
It pushes itself open.
Do any of you folks have the same problem?
Any way I can fix it?

My last resort is a hammer. (?)

Did you try a reset? Try it unplugged.

I have an old Pixma iP4500 with a front door, and I'm amazed that the door still stays closed, since there's not much holding it in place. However, I never close the door or turn it off anymore. Leaving it on saves ink and uses virtually no electricity.

If it was my printer, as long as the printing function worked, I wouldn't worry about the door. I'd just leave the door open and throw a cover over the printer when not in use to keep the dust out.

Doubt the hammer will resolve your troubles. The 7120 has a door on the front that does not close itself, at least not immediately. Somehow the door gets closed. Not a big deal.

I think you are right. A cover will have to do it if I can't
find a way to close it.
Thanks.
