Exif data not seen on Windows 8?

I have always been able to right click on a picture and go to properties and see all the data. Date, time, ISO, lens, shutter speed and aperature. There are some aps available, but I wonder if I am just doing something wrong. I find half the joy of the HOG is analyzing pictures. Can anyone with Windows 8 tell me how to get exif data? Thanks David

The file on UHH needs to be downloadable. If it is, click the link and the image will show up in a new window. Then right-click and save to your computer. Then you can do the steps you mention above. If you are already doing that, note that some folks strip the data before sharing.

Yes.

Generally if they don't upload using "store original" the image won't carry the EXIF, I think. Many seem challenged by using the "store original" check box. I like to think it is because the UHH instructions seem to discourage it to save on server space.

Also, perhaps depending on settings, files Exported from Lightroom for upload may not include the EXIF data.

I use Chrome as a browser with an extension that allows me to view the EXIF data without downloading. EXIF Viewer is the one I use but there are others available.

The "properties" on right click is very "basic" really !
These days I've been using an online tool where I don't even have to save the picture.....just copy/past the Url link after hitting download.

Thank you. I will try this. I had no problem with Window 7, but my Windows 8 won't show exif. Will try yours and let you know. David

I'm using a plugin in Firefox called EXIF Viewer 2.0 that only requires a right click to view the EXIF data. No downloading of the image necessary.

I can view the details in 8.1 when I view the Pictures Folder and click on an image. In the menu at the top select View and Details pane. Images on UHH have to be downloadable and saved to a folder in Pictures.

Is this what you are looking for?

I don't have Firefox, but will do this if that is the only way. Thanks David

I may have to PM you. When I do that, I have not been able to see where on the top to find View and Details. On the bottom is details and it only shows date but not ISO, shutter speed, and aperture setting. I will try and get back. Thank you, David

David, If you are running Windows 8 you may want to go to Windows updates and update to 8.1. Send a PM if I can help.

Yes. Take a look at this. In Windows explorer select the image and then on the Menu click view and select Details Pane

Great tip! JPINTN is correct!

It works the same on my 8.1 computer. It is not as complete as the Exif data displayed in Capture NX-D(free)for my Nikon camera but it has the basic info there.

I use Chrome as well and also use the EXIF Viewer extension. Works very well.
