Just looking for opinions/advice. with the Canon 100-400L II lens release, can anyone suggest a resale price/value on a used Canon 100-400L lens, the version released in the 1990's. it is from 2006. thanks
Sorry, I never heard of the Canon 100-400 II...is this a printer or a camera?

The earlier version of the Canon 100-400mm f/4.5-5.6L IS USM lens was a push-pull lens that used a bellows-like device to focus. The MK II version of the same lens uses a rotatation-type zoom ring, generally considered to be more accurate.
For crazy4thread, the older version is listed on Amazon.com for &1499.00 new, or $990.00 for a Used-Like New unit.
It is a lens. 100-400L. The II is the second version recently released.
Yes. I am just wondering if anyone might be able to put a value on the older version.
Didn't see all of your reply, thanks Bob.
I usually look at Craigslist, eBay and Amazon to come up with a range of what the asking price for items I'm selling are. I have the same lens and have used without any issues for many years. It has been great. I'm in line for the new one and will scrutinize it heavily before giving up my old one.
Good luck,
Chris

I've seen refurbished 100-400L direct from Canon for around $1150....that includes a one year Canon warranty. So if your used one is in as new condition I would think used it might go for $850-$950 to a private seller, 30% less if you sell it to a dealer. If it's below like new...the price would, of course, be less...any nicks or scratches on the glass and the value drops dramatically (even though it may not affect picture quality).
The new 100-400L currently goes for about $2200....so if you have the current model and it's performing well you might want to stick with it. Keep in mind that when you buy a new lens, you may or may not get a good one, even in the "L" category. I bought a Canon 14mm f/8L that performed worse than a much cheaper Sigma I had...if your old one works well, keep it....unless $$ is no object. I got a refund since I bought the 14mm direct from Canon....Canon dealers may not be that generous.

ebay is an excellent resource, look at both buy it now and sold items.
thanks everyone for your info/advice. I was actually checking prices for buying not selling and sounds like i did okay today. Excited to give it a try tomorrow!
The old 100-400L is F4 all the way. Mine is like new and I will be happy to sell it. The new one is a touch heavier, but a touch sharper.

Both Canon 100-400 L's are f/4.5-5.6. If you have a 100-400 L that is a constant f/4 I suggest you hang on to it! :-D
Good luck. I've had mine up for sale for several months. You list it and then hope to get lucky.
Previous advice on EBay, Amazon, Craigslist is good advice. Also check to see what used palces re selling for, i.e., KEH, B&H, Adaroma, etc.
Pick a price and hope for best. Need to include shipping, too.

I just sold my old 100-400mm lens to B & H and got $750 for it, it was only three years old so am not sure if that would make a difference and I also had everything that came with it (the lens bag, manuals, etc.).
