What do you think?
Go ahead I have big shoulders I can take it!

well Doc....I have to say she got more than two roses, a lot more. LOL...but I had gotten her a couple for Valentines too.
She is a lady that does not have to be whined and dinned if you know what I mean.

She has been my friend since 1963, and my wife since 1992, so I know her pretty well.
Thanks for your comments.

You don't need big shoulders... Pictures help us capture memories, but they will NEVER replace them! Congrats Buddy 36!

Hey Buddy, while you have a good subject matter, try a little variation.
I'd like to see these not so harshly lit..

Set them near a window and see if you can capture natural light playing on the petals? Don't use the flash. this way the light will be a lot softer on these delicate beauties! Experiment and I'd love to see some re-posts....

Your welcome!!! The intricacy of a rose is amazing so explore from different angles, remember I'd like to see what you come up with! good luck.
Also if you find that near the window one side of the subject is too dark, get a white foam core board or a paper plate will do, aim it towards the window and rotate the plate until you can see the light reflecting off the white surface onto the dark side of your subject. Oh, it helps to be on a tripod because you would need 3 hands! LOL

First one's nice. Second one's nicer. Third one's a bit lost (get closer, as in #s 1 and 2). Third one's the most interesting. Good framing!

Where've you been?

Hey nice job.... the first one still has harsh lighting. now what I want you to try, once the full sun gets away from that window and it's only available ambient light try it then. also if you have a small table near that window, take the roses & put them on the table & re-photograph.
If your camera is capable of macro get into the heart of the petals, try to almost fill the frame.. By the way did you use any reflector on these? keep posting

also I noticed the lace curtains, might make for some interesting background treatment. HMMMMMM.. looking to see your next post!

Hey Robert..have been buried in my stories. Just thought I would send the 'Two Roses' along and see what one thinks about them. Thank you for your comments. The third one was taken in the hallway and set in a side door glass pane. Just trying to get some reflection onto the roses. No flash on either.

Buddy I think what Wheezie was talking about by putting the roses by a window and using window light, was to change the angle of the lighting so it would "wash" across the flower from the side. I took this photo of a flower on a table in a restaurant. The table was next to a window, so Id say the flower was maybe 6 feet away. By the time the light traveled through the window and to the flower it was very soft. I used no flash, and used my elbows to make a tripod. Andy
