I printed my first piece last night. It really adds another option to printing. It was my first experience with metallic paper and I am very pleased with the results. Cost is around 3.00 per sheet on a 20 pack of 8.5 x 11, so I sure wont be printing everything on it but it really ads something to the lighting shown in the photos. I used it on a landscape and bet it would look great on some night shots. I know that some UHG members will have some advice on how best to use this media. I am printing on a Epson R2400.

I tested this paper, and like it very much. I also got a box of Red river metallic papers.

I tend to use this type with highly reflective surface type prints, and some HDR. FOr instance a trip to the Sloss Furance the results were print on metallic paper.

Unless, it's Gliclee Print, I have everything printed on metallic paper using the lightjet printer. The paper is excellent.

No clogging, I do run a cleaning cycle if I have not used it for a while and I have used some on the online ink refills but there is a difference in the colors. I have had better results with Epson inks and have decided to stick with them. This printer is now over 10 years old and I have had no problems with it. I keep thinking I need to up date it but it keeps on working.

I can't post what it looks like because it is the metallic media that makes the difference. It really makes the colors pop. I can imagine a bunch of hot air balloons lifting off a lush green valley. The image I printed was a cemetery on a Indian reservation, but the sky was really full of color. I don't think it would be good for people or animal subjects but for something like cars or inanimate objects you want to make stand out.

Let me hear how you like the new canon printer, I have read a lot of good reviews on it.

Artsmith, I also just recently tried Epson's new metallic papers, and like how the gray's are metalic looking in the print. I wasn't impressed with a waterfalls, I used the chrome luster with a sunrise and it looks good. I also used the metallic with a recent snow image, and it looks pretty good. Like you, I don't think it will be for printing everyting, but I'm just glad to find metallic paper we can use on inkjet printers. My best image so far is of old olive trees, with lots of shades of gray/blacks, with contrasting green leaves. It does look sharp.

Thank for the info, i will check it out.
I love the Canon, it really is a handsome machine and the colors are fantastic. I've printed out at least 3- 13X19'' and i am very impressed with it.

I’ve been printing on real aluminum and galvanized sheet
metal I cut and prep. Works great given the right subject!
The is no point in posing an example…. I have not taken
a photo of the prints themselves which is the whole point.

Can you enlighten us, on the prep process?

Sure,
Use thin rolled roof flashing and cut to size with good aircraft
type snips. Dress the sharp edges with a file or sanding block.
Clean very well in the sink… I use a wee bit of Bon Ami
too as it doesn’t scratch. Dry well… final clean with Isopropyl
Alcohol then coat with ''Ink Aid’’ with a foam brush. I let the
coating dry and settle-out over-night and then coat it again the
next day. I give the finished sheet two days before use.
You need a straight-through printer to print on these. Give it
a go…. a lot of work…. but worth it it the end!

I have seen a couple at my print shop. Awesome. What do you find to be the "right subjects"?
