Hi Folks, Greeting from cold London UK !
I've not seen any info or user comments on the
Sony NEX 6. Are there any snags before purchasing
a secondhand one?

Cheers
Old Jim.

I own the NEX 6, and I think it's a great camera. It uses the E-mount, which has a limited amount of lenses, but I find they have all the "main" prime and zoom lenses. Go for it.

I've been using the very similar NEX-5T, and really like the quality of its RAW files. Have been shooting with the "kit" 16-50mm, and a 20mm Sony prime, but I am still on the fence about buying more lenses because of the proprietary nature of the E-mount...
The only 2 things I really don't like about the NEX are its confusing menus (they seem just plain disorderly to me), and of course the lack of a viewfinder.

I know the NEX-5 doesn't have a viewfinder. The NEX-6 does. It's an electronic viewfinder which I love. Some purists prefer the optical view finders.

Nice camera, but you can't turn off pre-focus, so you lenses will always be whirring and grinding even if you aren't pressing the shutter. I found this to be very annoying. Your mileage may vary.

I have the Nex6 and like it. I had the Nex5 for about 2 weeks but took it back because the viewfinder was useless in sunlight. I currently have a Minolta MD 50/1.7 lens on it - using a Fotasy MD-NEX adapter. I picked up an old Minolta XG-1 film camera at the Goodwill that came with 3 lenses for $20 and the adapter was also about $20 from Amazon. If you don't mind manual focus you can find adapters for about any lens mount to the nex. And if you (I) ever step up to a full-frame Sony all of these old 35mm film lenses will work using the same adapters.

There are always possible snags in purchasing used equipment. If I remember correctly, the NEX 6 body is not currently expensive--you may compare the current new price with the used price and decide if the difference in price is worth the risk. I have an NEX6 camera and am quite fond of it. Bought it new.

 OR if you ever buy an A-mount Sony camera (full frame or APSC) you will not need an adapter and auto-will work perfectly well. :-D

I have a room full of great A-mount Sony, Minolta, and Sigma lenses.

This Saturday I'll be bringing my A77II with my old Sony 500mm f/8 reflex lens to the Steelers football game. The camera is small enough so they do not stop me from bringing it into the game. It's an effective 750mm lens! As long as the camera with the lens on it does not extend to over six inches they allow it into the game.

I have been tempted to buy an E-mount camera but never have. When I want to go small and compact I go with my RX100M2.

Replaced by the a6000. Newer, better, now discounted to make way for the anticipated a7000 expected early next year.
Weigh second-hand price of the 6 to new 6000.
a6000 are currently $448 (average) for body only (black or silver) with 16-50 auto zoom kit lens $598.
May want to check with Sony to see if the 6 & 7 are being produced.

The a6000 is worth the price difference.
