That is amazing! But so is the price to some degree. For me, I have not reached the level to put it to good use yet. Maybe one day, but until I am happy with what my D300s and I put out. A new camera isn't going to help much.

Cool. Now if I could just figure out where to get the money to buy it with!
Hey MT, what if any are the down sides of the D800 other than the high 36 MPs ?

Only downside I can see is that I don't have the $3300 to order one with right now! Its like my D7000 all grown up! LOL

How 'bout if we pool our money, buy a few, and time-share?

Are you done yet?!
... Down side is the high resolution??? Man, what planet are you from? We are talking about real pixels, here not vaporpixels (extrapolated)
As to the price... Don't forget to the lens price as shooting with this and getting the most of it, you want FX lenses not DX.. So more like $6,000.00
Still not available so.... Wait.
Well, I took the time to look at the pictures and the first thing that comes to mind is: Why are the D700 pictures not in focus? This plays a lot when comparing noise as being out of focus distract. Isolate the part that are pure noise and.... LOOKS NEARLY THE SAME! The ISO appears 'finer and more evenly distributed' but that is due to the image not being compared correctly. Also the darker frames disrupt the eye appreciation so....
Marketing ploy at work here, sorry. Someone is deliberately trying to make the D700 look bad.

Because someone made the same or similar observations? Note that several folks in that forum mention the same observations.
