IRS is using Facebook pages as evidence to go after photographers not paying taxes
The IRS is using Facebook pages as evidence to prosecute photographers that are not paying taxes on their income.

NOTE: this is a group on Facebook. The discussion was "read" to me by the wife and after clicking on the link, it goes to a page. The general idea is that someone is being sued by the IRS because they were using Facebook to advertise their Photo business and were trying to run it under the radar and not pay taxes. Now, they are loosing their house, etc. as back payment.
Just saw this on Facebook this morning. Fortunately, I keep good records and pay mine but just wanted to warn everyone to be careful what you publish and post. And keep track of your mileage and other expenses to counter your income. As I have mentioned before, photography is a business and goes far beyond expertise with the camera. It is also the ability to market, network, be a computer techie, record keeper, and other facets of being a business person. If you are doing anything other than that, you are risking your property and your livelihood.

Not belonging to that group, I was unable to see the post you referenced in the URL you posted. But I don't see how the IRS (or anyone) can determine your photography income by looking at what you post on Facebook.
The IRS doesn't really have the time and resources to sift through millions of Facebook pages to discover possible tax evaders. You would have to be under serious investigation that they may want to look closer at what you post on Facebook. And I mean serious investigation for major tax fraud, not a standard audit. There's a difference between reasonable caution and paranoia.
Urban myth....IRS using FB...seriously...no way

Employers are using face book to check interviewees out....so if you are going for a job interview clean up your home page and history
in order for irs too see your posts or any posts, they have too be on the or there friends list..

take a friend and try it....
That is why I rarely post anything anyways on FB and just participate in what has been posted in the groups and when questions are asked in the groups help with answering if I can very much 'cause I do not want to be judged by others 'cause of what has been posted on my page specifically. There have been times when someone that has "friended" me has posted something on my page, if I do not like it I will delete it.

I wonder if they only go after right-wing photographers? Maybe they will lose the records like they do incriminating emails.
Many people in the groups have complained about getting their pictures stolen. That is very much why I hesitate posting my pictures on FB. Esp. due to the certain species that I see knowing that other birders are really interested in a certain one that I do see here. I do though give them my suet recipe that does attract them.
