Our Plasma TV died, so I got a Vizio LED. One major change I noticed is how it makes film look. Films now look like live TV or video tape. I don't mind, but it does take some getting used to. Have any of you noticed this?

Hi Jerry, yes I have noticed this before. Congrats with the new TV, these new ones are amazing. There should be settings within the TV setup menu (sort of like picture style on a camera) which will allow you to change the look. I don't have that particular TV but think that it must be an option like on others.

Try Menu - Picture - Picture Mode if you have it on your TV remote.

Hi Jerry. Good thing for you that you switched. Did you notice a lot of heat coming of that plasma? Most people talk about the very high heat. If you did you'll really notice a difference with your new one. My doesn't get as warm as a coffee cup.

Yes LED televisions are very sharp especially when playing digitally shot BR discs. But in time I think you'll really like yours. Happy New Year!

Yes, that plasma got hot, which was okay in the winter. It used 500 Watts of electricity, so this under-100 Watt LED is a big improvement. I'm very pleased with it.

I had an old 10,000 BTU air conditioner in my bed room. It finally had to be replaced with a new unit. The new unit is also a 10,000 BTU unit and by replacing the old unit my electric bill went down by 50%. It paid for itself in the first year I had it.

Good. I did some research with a friend who's an electronic engineer and he told me then not to buy plasma because of the heat. I'm glad you're pleased.

And here I thought you got that plasma TV as an auxiliary heater for those cold evening. LOL. Well your electric bill will go down and the A/C will run less during summers.

What size/model did you decide on anyway? 2K or 4K?

I got dragged to a store to look at new TV's. (I hate every store except B&H) Huge screens, some of them curved, yep really, but all they played was some stupid movie with crazy machinery beating the crap out of other machinery.
I don't mind progress and digital cameras. TV's that drive you crazy? Not interested. I'll stick with my big box in the corner, the 13 inch B&W screen suits me fine. I haven't switched it on for awhile. Need to travel some more.

I had a 46 inch Samsung plasma for four years until my home was broken in to and it with numerous other things were stolen! I was so pleased with the silky smooth sharp picture of the plasma that there was no way I would be satisfied watching my football games on anything else! Don't know about other brands but my new 55 inch and my old Samsung plasma heating up was never a problem!

I've had plasmas for years and have not had any issues with heat. I love the inky blacks and wide viewing angle. And film looks like film on it, not soap operas. But when mine dies I'll have to bite the bullet and get an LCD or OLED because they're not making plasmas anymore; because they can't do 4K on plasmas cheaply. Progress I guess.

I bought one of the higher-end Panasonic 58" plasma sets not too long ago. It Is reasonably efficient. It uses 400 watts. Much less than the 1,900 watts of the 26" CRT it replaced. As for heat, it barely even gets warm. Probably due to the fact the heat is evenly distributed. Color and viewing is far better than any of the LED based LCD sets I have seen to date. When it goes to a completely black scene, if my room is blacked out, the only indication of where the set is, is the power on light (which I have turned off). Only trade-off? It is not as bright as the LED/LCD sets. A trade off I am glad to forgo. No trails from fast moving objects, no grey screen instead of inky blacks, no lost detail in dark scenes.....
