A Shame the bird was flying away, we call this an ass shot. Hopefully you can spend lots more time stalking your subject to get a better photo. I also noticed excessive noise in the photo which really kills the detail. For great captures you need better light, perfect light would be 8am to about 10:30am with the sun raising behind you facing the birds. This way the bird is illuminated fully in the front giving you an even exposure. Good-Luck and have fun with the new lens.

Unfortunately, it was a very overcast early morning. I'm looking forward to more light.

Nothing wrong with your lighting, it needs a little post processing and it really pops even at ISO 6400 at 240MM 1/2000. Will re-post with permission.
