Website advice

Seasons Greetings to all...

My question is with uploading images to new site. I have been photographing landscape and wildlife for several years. I am now in the process of uploading images to my website. After googling for several weeks I finally decided on Zenfolio which most of you probably know offers the templates. Just not sure how many is to many per gallery.

I have quite a few worthy images (landscapes, birds, animals) taken from the same location as a result of revisiting. I started with uploading my bird images where I have hundreds of some species... fewer of others.

I welcome any advice.

Thanks

As general rule, fewer excellent images is better than lots of images that are pretty much alike.

You did not state WHY you want to post images - if it is to sell, then fewer is definitely better as tons of images just make it tough for people to decide. If it is just to show your work, then put up whatever you like.

Thanks for the reply Captain C. As for as the "WHY"... my primary goal would be to perhaps sell a few. I appreciate your advice. I have uploaded 80-100 in some galleries, I was beginning to feel that it was to many. I appreciate the counsel.

Hi,
A traditional Portfolio of images is around 15-20 images. If you had images from one location or of one type of bird, I might consider starting with the number I mentioned. As you have intuited, 80-100 is too many and most people's eyes will glaze over pretty quickly.
If you belong to Adobe's Creative Cloud, you might try Behance, a good way to showcase your work to a world-wise audience.
Good luck!
Merry Christmas to all!

Your web site is worth the people that see it (traffic ). If you put the name of you web site on here when you put something on this forum it helps. I have 7 domains all going to
www.snapshots2010.com
my smugmug account, I display and sell my work for one yearly price. They also help with web traffic.
I'm also thinking about web.com as another web site for my work as www.snapANprint.com
The more people see you work the better price you get. I do all this for something to do and PASS IT ON to help. Best of luck to you and have a great new year.

Thanks a bunch Bullyboy... I am several years late in getting this site up. I see the benefit of uploading to different sites, and also using the social media sites. Currently I have the site invisible to viewers because I needed to make sure all images were cropped and edited correctly.

I will most certainly add the site to my hog account in hopes of receiving constructive criticism from you guys.

Season's greetings

I started lot of web sites for this and that 10 years ago, a lot of money down the drain. I was going have one make for me which cost $1,000 up NO WAY.
Smugmug is the best money I've spent in the last 5 years.

Seasons Greetings to all... br br My question is ... (show quote)

If you are doing this for business, then fewer is better. A LOT fewer than 100 for sure!

What I've done is created a separate folder for my "business" portfolio, where I post only a few of my best shots. In other folders, I upload all my edited photos. You can "hide" any folder you like through the settings. My philosophy is upload all of them, but show only the best. Of course, I use my site as off-site (or cloud) storage as well.

Thank you all for getting me on the right track. I appreciate the advice... just what I needed. I will now begin the selection process, and how to navigate thru the settings.

Blessed Weekend to all
