What "flashings" are you referring to?

Probably any MOLYBDENUM grease. A warning though. A grease will attract dirt. You might want to consider a dry solution such as graphite. It's a bit abrasive but shouldn't be a problem.

My tripod was drenched in salt water in Greenland and even though I cleaned it right afterwards the metal flashings inside of the leg compartments are a little rusty.

Clean with steel wool then soak in Naval Jelly for a couple days. Clean well and reassemble dry. If needed lube with graphite.

What in the world are you doing in Greenland? My dad served two tours there in the Air Force at Thule. I figured he made somebody mad. Immediately after exposure to salt water the best thing to do is flush it with fresh water, dry, then add lubricant. I would contact the manufacturer for better advice.

How did you get there? I haven't done any research but I thought that Thule (military) was about the only place up there. I'd love to visit Iceland myself.

I flew to Kulusuk Greenland from Reykjavik..Only 90 minute flight. From there we had to travel by boat.

Naval Jelly is available at most any hardware or automotive supply store. Follow directions carefully. Unless the bushings are of ferrous metal, you have corrosion, not rust.
