I very seldom ever use my phone to take pictures; maybe while shopping at an antique shop, for future reference. But apparently it appeals to a lot of people:

"With the endless number of photo editing and sharing apps available for your smartphone, iPhoneography -- the art of taking pictures with an iPhone or other smartphone -- has because (become) a new outlet for creative minds."

At the moment at least I tell people to get a "real" camera.
These phone cameras have a sensor about the size of a pin head and produce terrible stuff compared to a dslr from Canon or Nikon.

Okay for the quick shot at a party but not for serious photography.

Just an opinion.

How about some macro photography, with this "rubber band" lens?

I use mind for a quick to snap shoots. Dog pictures and stuff, but not much good for anything else. I did do a video that is on YouTube that I shot with my Iphone.
I all ready had my 15 minutes of fame "Vampire Piglet From Outer Space" So now I just take the best pictures I can with my camera.

Due to the rousing voices of enthusiasm, I'm assuming that there's not a lot of interest in iPhoneography.

Can't say I'm surprised.

I think the new iPhone is a terrific camera. Not for wildlife or anything that needs a long lens. But it's a very stealthy street camera and can produce fine files with its sharp lens and 8MP sensor.

It's the photographer, not the camera.

Here are a couple of frames that I shot at the Santa Monica pier last weekend. I've stored the originals so you can download and inspect this quality.

some truely creative minds will find a way to use the iphone to produce great images (these folks would regardless of the tool) but most people won't.

My wife was in Switzerland, near Geneva in early February 2012 and it was very cold and windy. Along the lake, the wind was blowing the water onto the shore and it then froze. She took this with her Motorola droid cell phone camera. It won 1st place in our local camera club competition, and she didn't change it at all on her computer.

This image proves beyond a doubt that it is not the "nuts and bolts" that comprise the imaging device, but the nut behind the eyepiece that makes the photographic work of art.

The ability to see and recognize an artful moment, and then the presence of mind to use the tools available to capture this moment in time is all in the hands of the photographer.

Very good capture, and thanks for sharing.

One of the reasons I upgraded to an iphone from my blackberry was the camera. It's a great point-n-shoot alternative. I don't always have my Canon with me.

There are several classes here near DC that are JUST for how to use the iphone camera for best shots. It's not a replacement for the DSLR, but it sure is a handy, fun tool!

I seen other good pictures taken with iphone. You can get different lenses for the newer phones (i.e. zoom, wide angle, macro, and fisheye). These phones may replace the need to carry a compact camera because one device would accomplish several purposes.

The great thing about a cell phone camera is you usually have it with you. I take all kinds of photos with my phone. Many times I use it instead of writing something down. Before I disassemble anything I take a few photos as well as my progression so I can get it back together correctly. Ever had a problem with Valet parking? They always say the damage was done before. I take four photos of my car. Both sides front & back before the valet drives off. Parking spot location. Copy posted business hours, listed service functions, pricing for later review and recall. Product comparisons in different store. Documents (Cheap copy machine)and you have it with you. Phone numbers on signs. License plates. The list goes on & on. My memory fades but the photo doesn't.
