Are you sure you are describing the correct lens? I have the lens in your photo and the numbers don't match. Also, I 'm using mine with the D5000 and the auto Focus does work very well. My lens is around 6 inches long and 3 inches in Diameter, and takes a 67 mm filter.
Just checking......
Joe
Can't imagine what numbers you are referring to, Joe, but I assure you the lens and the box belong together . . . not including the 67mm filter, which will be sold separately, If I can't use it in the future.

The box says it is an AF-S lens -
AF-S (AF-Silent Wave Motor) has the motor in the lens and will work with almost all of the Nikon cameras - it will not work with some of the older film cameras but will work with all of the digital cameras...
I have this exact lens and it will auto focus on all Nikon DSLR's. It has the motor built in the lens. The lens is top notch and a deal for someone who is looking for a nice FX lens with some reach.
The 70-300 that takes a 62mm filter is the older G lens, not the VR 2
Something does not match between the description and the filter.
The picture is not that of the lens described. Maybe just an error, but be sure what you are buying.
BTW. The G model sell on amazon for around 100.00

Yes, the G is the cheaper lens and uses the 62mm filter. He may have used the wrong info, but the photo is of the better lens and a deal at that price!
I am writing here what is printed in gold on the lens barrel:
"Nikon ED"
"AF-S 70-300mm 1:4.5-5.6G"
"VR" (not in gold)
On the reverse side:
Nikon SWM VR ED 067
Hope this clears things up, and I apologize if I did anything incorrect in my description.
Vinnie
A hell of a deal for a very nice lens.
Good luck!
I'm surprised no one has bought this yet and called it a Santa present! Just saying...............
Holy Smokes, your giving this lens away.. If I didn't just buy a larger lens I would buy this just for backup. It's a Great Lens folks for the price.
http://www.uglyhedgehog.com/t-162230-1.html All of my bird shots here on the hog are with this lens
There are 3 lenses one without VR another older VR lens and a newer VR lens.
Hello Vinnie
If your lens is still available I am interested.
