Micro-adjusting a Canon 60D

After a year of shooting my 60D, some small particles of who-knows-what began to appear in my images so I took it to a camera repair shop to get the sensor cleaned.

When I was leaving I mentioned to this technician that the images I take with my 70-200 2.8L IS II are tack sharp all the time. But, with my 24-105L and 400L, I occasionally notice some softness that requires more pp to correct. Basically, I was seeking his knowledge of any micro-adjusting I could do within the 60D programming to correct the sharpness with these other quality lenses.

He responded by saying that the 60D has this feature but that Canon did not make the micro-adjusting feature active... it is, however, active in the 7D model.

Like with computers, is there any "work-around" to make micro-adjusting work in the 60D. If the gent is accurate, why would Canon put the function in there and not have it activated?

Can any among the UHH faithful address this issue short of telling me to buy the 7D or something else? [Obviously, I chose to invest my bucks in quality glass realizing that a better camera body would be next... down the road.]

That is strange they would do that! I can adjust it in my Nikon if the lens is a little soft. Hope you get your answer. Do you have the manuel?

Yes, I have the manual but so far I have not found anything that helps.

Magic Lantern might open it up for you.

I checked the site. Seems that the addon firmware package was written for the 60D and does address focus issues. Thanks for a possible solution. Comes down to trust, so I got to explore this item further. If anyone on UHH has used magic lantern, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks for sending this option my way.

That's just weird. I have the Canon 50D; pre-60D and it has micro adjustment.

I've used ML and it's a good bit of software.

It has it's drawbacks, but it's safe. It installs on your card NOT in the camera, and it runs alongside your canon firmware.

IF it allows a "focus adjust" then that would be very valuable to me..but I can't see where it does...

That's just a target system that you can use if your camera will allow adjusting the focus..the OP is asking how to hack his camera firmware to allow adjusting focus.

For that matter, I'd love that ability too!

My mistake, thanks for clearing that up. I need to learn a lot more I see. It's a never ending quest for truth, justice, and great photography!!!
