Simple Photoshop Question, I hope.

I've been using Photoshop since Version 4, I now have CC. I have selected an ellipse and done Ctrl C to copy. When I paste I get only the selection marching ants not the content. I'm on the correct layer. I've done this many times and now it doesn't work.

Use elliptical marquee tool, not the ellipse tool with a path, for simple copy and paste to new layers.
Instead of Crtl-C and Ctrl-V to paste a marquee tool selection to a new layer, you can select with the marquee tool and copy & paste the selected area to a new layer with a single command Ctrl-j.
I created a filled ellipse, selected it with the magic wand,
Control C to Copy
Control V to paste
A new layer is created with a copy of the ellipse pasted on.
Are these different to your moves?

I was attempting to cut an oval from an antique portrait and paste 2 of them side by side for a double 5x7. If I selected with the oval marquee Copy/Paste copied only the marching ants. If I used the move tool the selected portrait would move so I did isolate the oval but. After your answer and since the oval was isolated I selected the oval with the Quick Select tool and everything worked as expected. I was even able to select with the lasso tool and copy and paste which didn't work before. I must have missed something but I haven't figured out what.

Thanks Rick, I tried your way and it worked fine, however, I tried the way I did the first time Ctrl C/V (I had used the elliptical marquee) and it worked also. I was wrong somewhere but I can't figure where. All is fixed and thanks again to both of you.
