I bought 5D mark III Battery Grip by mistake (I have mark II). From eBay -- see screen grab. New, unused, looks solid. Takes six AA or two lithium batteries. $40 incl shipping to eastern US.

This is third party, a replacement for Canon's BG-E11.

See screen grab for Canon oem version -- for $269.95 -- from B&H, and same price from Amazon.

I bought a 3rd party grip from Vello and it crapped out after about a year of use. I'm not going to replace it. Canon batteries last long enough and I decided that I don't like the extra weight of a battery grip.

Many users have vouched for third party grips. And as one hogger said, approximately, in the main thread, "I can buy ten of these for the cost of an oem grip; if one goes, I'll just buy another."

Reading your second sentence, you should not have bought one anyway.

The Vello is about $100 so you can only buy 2 3/4 of them before you'd pay the same for an OEM grip. I still have a grip on my 7D (OEM) and even it gives me heartburn sometimes. Sometimes it doesn't register both batteries and sometimes it becomes loose and the camera stops working. I don't know. I bought them because I thought they looked cool but when you install a 500mm prime lens and the overall weight exceeds 13 pounds, I started to think of ways to cut the weight a bit. Loosing the grip is the best way to strip off some of the extra weight.

I have one I'll sell you for $35 for all the above reasons. Mine came lose a couple of times, too. I shoot quite a bit, and it is just easier to carry an extra battery in my pocket (which I have never had to use). Also, the camera (5D Mk III) fits better in my back pack without the grip. You can PM me if you want my grip. For those the West, I'll cover the shipping. Now we have the country covered pretty well. 😊
