I am curious, I see the post about buying {this lens}from amazon..
have you decided not to buy from amazon? or just looking for a good deal?

I'm still on the fence about making the right purchase. I found one on Amazon for $919 I was going to purchase, then came the grey market issue. I'm just not sure what to do and have found, when I don't know what to do, doing nothing is the best course of action. I am looking for a good deal as well. Do you know anything about grey market lenses?
Unless I am sadly and grossly mistaken Tamron lenses have nothing to do with grey market products. Grey market lenses refer to Nikon manufactured products that are from Nikon but are sold in countries other than the USA. If you were to purchase a Nikon lens originally shipped to the the UK or Italy as examples there would be no USA warranty work on them. Tamron is simply another aftermarket lens manufacture and there is no grey market for them.
Please correct me if I am mistaken.

I do understand about not knowing, I have been thru it and burned myself! I myself do not know anything about grey market lens and cameras, but some have stated they buy them, ME, personally I would not. my luck is i would get the bad one!!!
as for getting a deal, the one thing i learned a long time ago..... i was looking for an ipod, i did a LOT of shopping.. and found that most all the stores were sale'ing them for about the same price, {with in nickels}.. i finally talked to a sale rep and was advised that the manufacturer set's the sale price ... so for finding a "deal" it would have to be refurbished or used..
i buy my lenses {for the most part} from Nikon or sigma, i have not bought straight from tamron, i got my tamron llens from a local brick and mortar store...
have you thought ot the sigma, {i have a couple of them and like them}
http://www.sigmaphoto.com/product/24-70mm-f28-if-ex-dg-hsmwell anyways, good luck with your decision,
this is probably the hardest part of photography!!!!
Thanks, Guys. I agree, this is the most difficult part of photography. I'm trying hard to avoid buyer's remorse. The two gently used lenses I have seen for sale from individuals were just that. They paid too much for them, decided to go with Nikon and now trying to recoup their loss by asking almost as much as a new price. I'll just bide my time and when the right one comes along, I'll get it.

I'm trying to track one of these down too. Have you checked on ebay? There are a few there.
I just found the 70-200 version on there and bought it before a bid was cast. I got it for 900 MINT condition. :D
I learned something new today. Thanks for letting me know. I have thought forever that it was only a Nikon policy regarding grey market products. I guess not.

There is Canon gray market items also.

I learned something else. Because of what some Canon users have said during Nikon/Canon debates here I thought a selling point for Canon was all Canons would be repaired under the warranty program no matter where they were purchased.
