My Printer is "Banding"

Even after several cleanings, my Canon iP4500 is still banding when printing photos. It's no big deal because I'm just printing them for reference. When going through the cleaning cycle doesn't work, is there an alternative?

I had to change out the ink supply to get my HP printer to stop. As you, several cleaning cycles helped , but, did get rid of the banding.

Perhaps a service call.

In my experience with Canon printers banding is generally a nozzle clog...if several cleanings do not fix the problem think the quality settings you are using to print and print head alignment.

Canon also has a deep cleaning setting.

1) Clean and calibrate more than once.
2) Get an Epson :)

The printer is about seven years old, and it cost a little over $100, so service is out of the question. I use mainly it for printing text.

That didn't help either.

I had the same problem with my 2010 Canon printer - after cleaning the head twice (YouTube videos are great for this) I noticed that the membrane on the printhead for the large black cartridge is not smooth whereas the others are. This convinced me to get a new printer. I recently got the Canon MG7520 for $149 which is a new model, has 6 cartridges and the color prints are much better and closer to what I see on my iMac than before. It also allows for printing wirelessly from my iPhone and iPad.

Jerry, I have always been told that one should never mess with the print head, but when I had a similar problem it came down to throwing my Canon printer in the trash or giving the print-head cleaning a try. A quick search on Google got me several videos on how to remove and clean a variety of Canon print heads. Took a full day, lots of soaking and drying time, but the printer works like new. Sorry I don't remember the video source, but should be easy to find. My printer is an MG6120.

It's possible it may be getting low on one color Jerry.

Coincidentally I have a 4500 now, had a 2100? with the same problem, tried the cleaning route, alcohol soaked paper towels worked under the print head, gave up and upgraded, good excuse to up grade, check out IP8720 , saw it at the show, nice...

check to see if it is in a high speed or bidirectional mode.

The only time I ever had this problem with my Epson printer was when I tried generic inks...threw them out and went back to Epson and no more problems...

Jerry,
Over 5 yrs ago I bought an in-expensive Brother 2040 series laserjet (under $100 and still available today), for non-pix printing. You don't have to worry about clogs and can print over 2000 pages before replacing a toner cartridge. This thing has never burped or had a paper jam !
I have an Epson R1900 (8 colors) and after having to waste 8 carts to fix a clog several years ago, I print a head check pattern (very small amount of ink) every 2nd week unless I print. Since doing this for last several yrs, I use a lot less ink than running head clean cycles. I also had problems with 2 different aftermarket inks. I now stick with Epson ink and papers.

I would shop for a new printer, Jerry.
Anymore, it is darn near cheaper to buy a printer, than to buy replacement ink catridges.
