Received permission from the COO of our budget to order a new camera for Xmas. After years of Canon products, and a growing disappointment with their sensor technology, looked at changing to Nikon. After looking at a friends new Sony a7r, I stumbled upon the a6000 and last night ordered it with the 16-50 lens on special from B&H. First adventure into land of no mirrors. It's an experiment into low light sports shooting, but not with the kit lens. I know mirrorless cameras are still improving. Always thought I would own one eventually, but not this soon. Will report back to my fellow hoggers on first impressions as soon as I figure it out. Pretty sure the menu settings will be a steep learning curve, but looking forward to new challenge and experience. Have to decide for myself if these are the future for photography.

Or maybe decide if these are the future of your photography.
Regardless, enjoy whatever you decide on. :-D
EDIT: Oops. Just noticed you said "last night ordered it". It will be a good one!

Maybe a little of both. Lol B&H advertised 1 day free shipping. A tall order for this time of the year. Not sure it will get into delivery system today. Guessing Tuesday will be more realistic.

This time of year is tempting. I just got a 1.4X teleconverter I don't really need but KEH had a one day 50% off sale so it was $171 with free shipping. Got it yesterday and it's like new. :)

Very nice! Will probably be visiting KEH for E-mount lenses and flash.
Holy cow! Just got shipping confirmation along with tracking number from B&H that my order has shipped and scanned in by UPS. They've only been open for less than 5 hours today! Apparently, no dust dares settle on any B&H products these days! Well done B&H!!!!

Congratulations! Have read rave reviews on this camera. Thought about getting one myself someday, but then heard it may not do wildlife and BIFs all that well. :(

Saw B&H one day delivery promo, so hope you get it soon and can post some shots. I am sure you will enjoy it.

It's on the way!!
I understand what you are saying about AF tracking and I would agree they have a ways to go. The good news is Sony is getting there faster than the competition. The sensor on this model has a newer hybrid focus system. I knew when I ordered it it would not be great for everything (much like DSLR's). It is an entry level into mirror less. I read a pretty good review which posted some real world shots using continuous focus at 11 fps. The reviewer stated that for action shots, he did not feel that the AF tracking system did a great job keeping up at that rate. At 11 fps he was getting on average about a 60% keeper rate. Putting this into perspective (for my use) that is quite good.
Have never done any BIF, very little wildlife, but with a different lens hope to use it for low-light sports. Kit lens should suffice for street photography and family shots. Next purchase will be a EF/EF-s to E-mount adapter to experiment with Canon lenses on the 6000 using manual focus. At the price point for this model, looking at it as more fun and learning about mirror less than anything else right now.
BTW - hearing news that the a7000 will be released sometime in January or February which has an even faster and more accurate AF system. Little I have read indicated new model will be retailed at $200 more than the a6000 before discounts. If that is correct, guessing it will sell for about $950, but Sony has been full of surprises the past 1-2 years.

Yay...you should have it soon! How exciting.

Thanks for the information on the new model hopefully coming out soon. Saw the a6000 for $599. Can't do $950. But hoping if the 7000 can do wildlife and BIFs, eventually the price will come down or a refurbished model will be available in my comfort zone. Not something I need now. Have my Nikon D5100 and my sx50. But thinking of entry level mirrorless in the future.

Looking forward to seeing your first shots with your new toy.

Looked for refurbs without success. Several sellers had the kit at that price. Noticed that ordering from Walmart, the kit was sent from Cameta Camera. Almost went for it, but minimal research showed only silver version. B&H offered it for same price with a $50 B&H gift card and one-day shipping. It seems like Sony is producing a lot of new models at a rapid rate, which shows they are heavy into R&D which is good for us. This time next year, I imagine the 6000 will be forgotten, the 7000 will be discounted and rumors of a newer model will be a topic. lol

Do a lot of shooting with it right away. If you don't like it, I think B&H takes returns. "Stumbled upon" doesn't sound like a basis for making an expensive decision, but that camera has gotten excellent reviews, and I'd bet anything it will take great pictures. As for the learning curve, I bet you'll have it under control within a week. There's lots of info on YouTube.
