I'm just curious. How many people out there will admit to NOT backing up their photos? Be honest.

And please, no critique of those who respond honestly.

Yea donrent, I learned the hard way. Lost over 3200 pictures. I was going to put them on a Sandisk and had thought about it one day and had to do some errands,
a couple days later my computer crashed. There they went. I may be able to recover them but it will cost me over $500 to try and will I get them all probably not many.

I have an automatic backup that backs up every week at midnight and another drive that backs up once a month. I should reset the one for every night, I suppose.

I'll admit that until fairly recently I had a very mismatch of back-up. but a few months ago I got a new computer and backed up everything onto two portable drives so that I could use one to migrate files that I use a lot onto the new computer. Now to access many of them, I do it from one of the drives via USB.
My goal is to go through and create files of JUST what I consider my better work and then just trash the rest. Then add to the cleaned up files as needed.
I wanted to use the old computer at a different location but did NOT want to wait till it crashed then try to extract the files!! ;-)
But it's always better late than never, isn't it?!!

I backup regularly and everything is on two external hard drives. Just trying to be responsible. Will it matter in the long run? I don't know. I'm just trying to not have to deal with the inevitable. All mechanical things die. Hopefully, not all at once.

I backup to my file server with a RAID system a well as CD from time to time. Used to use a digital tape drive much slower that RAID. Going to update my server soon.

I use a product called "FreeCommander" on a windows type PC. It opens a Windows Explorer type screen with a left half and right half. You can set each half to any directory you like and you can then tell it to do things like:

1) Synchronize left and right side so they have exactly the same files

2) Synchronize only from the left going right (or only from the right going left).

It will deal with all sub-folders and all files and make a copy automatically on the other.

I like this because it is totally under my own control. But it is really easy to use.

How many people are not backing up photos? Too many!

How many people will admit to NOT backing up photos? Not enough!
