I have a D2X, been in photography since 1936, actively used the zone system with roll B&W & 4x5 & 8x10 cameras for exposure in film days and did a lot of high resolution enlarging and lens resolution testing. I've done a lot of macro pictures. I still have 2 Hasse$$blad cameras and a big telephoto and some others.
Does anyone know how to make infrared pictures with the D2X? There is more than just adding a red lens I'm sure and perhaps a white balance change. What are typical iso speeds? Nikon tells me that there are those who will make the modification. Does any new camera now have the infrared feature built in now? Is it fixed on that then and who does it?

Hi Ken,
This link: http://www.lifepixel.com/tutorials/infrared-diy-tutorials
Should give you some information about converting a camera to do IR.
You can also use the channel mixer in Photoshop to create a 'faux infrared' look but conversion is the better option.
I bought a used D100 and had it converted by Lifepixel. I still miss Kodak HIE!

Since 1936?
Are you 104?
Please check the following info.
With a converted camera I believe that the normal settings are available to you ie you can shoot at 1/125th sec.
But if you do it with filters you are limited to long exposures like 20 secs etc.

Ken, welcome to the Hog.
Sounds like you have a lot of film experience!
Yes, you can add the IR filter to the lens and it's pretty close or you can have the camera converted but the conversion is permanent and you can't go back!! Some cameras are better for IR than others. ;-)

There are filters you can buy but they are hard to use and not as good as the conversions. It's probably best that you look for a camera body that has already been converted. They are usually converted to work best with a certain focal length lens. You can pick up converted bodies for less than $300.

Yikes, that is as old as Kodachrome film & the Wizard of Oz. And Kodachrome is Off To See The Wizard. Movie's been remastered and the film is no longer made.

Hey, watch it! I was born only eight years after that. With age comes wisdom. I just haven't reached that age yet. :D

Welcome to our forum!

I used to shoot Kodak Aero Infrared, but having the conversion done make it so much simpler. I had a D70 and a D40 converted by LifePixel. I don't have to add a filter, and I can shoot like normal.

I thought we had a separate section for IR, but I couldn't find it. There has been a lot of discussion here about IR.
