I have a 20-40 Tamron lens that I have been using on a Minolta D7 all of a sudden the pictures are very soft slightly out of focus. Suggestions for correcting?

If your other lenses ar shooting OK, it may be time to send that one off for cleaning and focus adjustment.

You could try, if its the only one lens, cleaning the contacts on that lens with an eraser and if its all lenses maybe try same thing with the contacts in the camera. This would be cheaper for now than sending it away but if it doesn't help you can still send it away.

Never use an eraser on the contacts of modern lenses, most are coated with a thin film of gold and the eraser is abrasive and will remove that coating thereby ruining your lens. Always clean those contacts with some alcohol on a Q-tip. The eraser works OK with the old steel contacts.

I was just discussing my problems with my Tamron lens in a previous question - interesting. I have an 18-200 and it has focus and aberration issues. The aberration shows up at full zoom out, only one the left side because, I'm sure, the glass isn't the best out there. Focus works fine in bright sun but below that - problems.

I certainly can't speak to your lens but sending it to Tamron for an adjustment might be a good idea... I guess I could do the same but I have 4-Canon lenses that I use all the time and the Tamron sits on the shelf.

One more point. When I received my Tamron it was fine and then, as you pointed out about yours, the problems started showing up. So my question is, are Tamron lenses prone to coming out of adjustment? I don't know enough about the brand to answer that... but perhaps that's what's happened to yours.

Good Luck, Jim
