My wife and I live in a small rural town and our niece asked us to go with her and her 2 little children to see the Canadian Pacific Holiday Train. The train was scheduled to stop in town on the railroad crossing for an hour. All the boxcars were lit up with Christmas lights and one of the cars had a fold down stage door built into it. They had a band and very good singers doing Christmas carols. The only problem for getting good pictures was there were so many people in a town of 2,200 people that I would have needed a lift or bucket truck to get above them, I did the best I could and then we moved out of town to another railroad crossing where the train went by at about 50 MPH in the fog. Hope you enjoy as much as we did the festive night.

Your pictures are very good.
Over the years, I have learned to view the crowd as part of the show, so I've stopped worrying about having actual people in a photograph of something intended to attract people - it's like having ducks in a picture of a duck decoy.
Thank you for the explanation it does make more sense when I think of it that way.

Great shots Gregory. The same train comes through near here, but it was windy and cold that night so I chickened out...saw it last year for the first time and it was fun
Thank you Plessner, it is a fun event to partake in. The music was great also and the lights were terrific. We did see MRS. Claus in the distance but never were close enough to get pictures of them.

What a wonderful idea, and how much fun that must have been. I think you did very well on the night-time shots.
Thank you AuntieM, it was fun and the weather was warm so even us older kids stayed warm.
